Today was our second day of class. Our classes are held in the LDS church building at Hyde Park. (It's not technically at the park itself, it's just in the area.) It's quite a beautiful building and suprisingly teeming with technology. It's all very white, with your standard paintings and such within, but there are lots of moving computer screens and tvs showing videos, so it's more of a visitor's center AND chapel than just your regular stake building. But I must say, the spirit is so strong in there. I would liken it even unto the temple. During break I'll use the restroom or something and as I go up the staircase to the classroom I will just stop and soak it all in. That's one of my favorite parts of going to class honestly is just entering the building and being there. It's very peaceful and healing. I absolutely love it.
We saw policeman trot by on our way back to the flat. Yes, trot - they were on horseback. :) Isn't that cool? I just love how english England is! haha With it's cobblestone streets, chimneys in a row, and policemen on horseback. :)
After class there was a lot of napping. Lol! I'm pretty sure I've still got some jet lag going on. My clock is a bit messed up. But I think it will fix itself out soon. But the big even of the day, for sure, was seeing The Woman in Black. Friends, this was not the movie with Daniel Radcliffe, nor was this a drill. This was the real deal, and I may have been terrified.
Let's be honest - I was realllly conflicted about going. I wanted to because I thought it would be fun to go with friends and that it would be a good show/experience; but I also knew how afraid I am of all things remotely creepy and that there was a great possibility of fear for the rest of the night. That and some other girls from our group went and said they were so scared they cried in the theatre. So yeah. Nothing like keeping me comforted. But at the very last second I decided to go. As Tanner says "YOLO" aka You only London once. So I went. It was me, Tanner, and Melissa. My goodness was it effective! The man in the ticket booth said that we would all scream like little girls - and all three of us did. I'm pretty sure we all jumped out of our skins at least once, as well as yell out loud. I was holding hands incredibly tightly with fear. But as truly scared as I was, it ended up being really fun. And the show was really good too! (Obviously, since we were haunted for the rest of our lives.)
It was pretty remarkable in that there were only 2 actors and very little room on stage for any sort of set and yet the visuals were great and the 2 actors played over 12 roles between the two. The elder actor played numerous, numerous roles and all with different accents. He was just riveting. What I loved about his performance was how transformed he was in each role. And while he played three different characters with Yorkshire accents, each variation of the Yorkshire accent was incredibly accurate and obviously a different character than the previous. And I DO know a thing or two about Yorkshire accents now so I'm a reliable source. ;) But nonetheless, the experience was a fun one, albeit stressful.
(Me, Melissa, and Tanner after the show.)
Each of us commented as we were leaving how our hearts were still pounding, and we would bring it up every once in a while to see how we all were doing. It lasted quite a while for all of us! I must say that the strip the theatre is located on looks quite intimidating at night, especially after seeing a terrifying show. Melissa and I were a bit more jumpy on our way home! But since we were young and you only London once, we decided to grab some dinner. We eat at Pizza Express which was pretty cheap and surprisingly delicious! We all had margharetia pizzas and shared little garlic dough balls. MMMMM. Afterwards we headed for the tubes and went home, hearts still pounding. Melissa and I, since we lived in a different building than Tanner, walked the rest of the way home by ourselves after we said goodbye to Tanner. We walked a bit more briskly and talked a bit more than usual ;)It's now the morning and needless to say - I didn't get as much sleep as normal. And you better believe I used the crap out of Netflix to distract myself from my haunted feelings. I chose Modern Family :) Always a solid choice. But I've got another busy day ahead of me.
Good night, America and good morning London!
